1. Exposition Film: archive material from the Sistine Chapel, arranged by the video artist Bill Morrison. This specialist for expired archive material allows images from a distant epoch to be resurrected, and implies a viewpoint from the future, the year 2050, upon the year 1980 and the time when the restoration work in the Sistine Chapel began. Portrait from 1980 as old and decayed. At the same time, so quiet as to be barely audible, the first traces of a soundscape, underwater music.2. Music: into the whirlpool of the large images projected into the open room, the sound of a youthful song by Claudio Monteverdi for Baroque voice and instruments is heard. The view is out of the past into the future; impression is from 1600 as young and fresh.
2a: song by Henry Purcell, arranged for the pop singer Ane Brun. Portrait of a time-traveller .
3. Text: the restorer, in the present, 2007, gives a lecture on the restoration work on the frescoes of Michelangelo - whose letters and other private material flow seamlessly into the lecture.
4. Musical development: instrumental: the apparently youthful Baroque music by Nicola Matteis alters on a paradoxical time-line into the year; a woeful, nostalgic hint turns to something more bitter, as the music decays completely. Following this, a "face-lift“ back to the youthfully bright restoration work. A suspicious drone sound mixes in, a quiet but inexorable memory. And a further development into a transbaroque piece. Vocal: the songs performed by the Baroque singer become darker (songs from Sigismondo d’India), whilst the pop singer sings a light piece by Henry Purcell with the accompaniment of the theorbo.
5. The two singers start to argue; the personal becomes more central.
6. Interventions from the text and image level intertwine with the music.
7. Transformation between restoration, reImagination, transfiguration and decay (between analogue weathering and digital crash)
8. Second filmblock, more personal, the singers and their stories are centre-stage; view back in time from the year 2117.
